About The Ferry Inn

The Ferry Inn is a beautiful, inviting pub with roaring open fires in the winter and sensational sunsets in the summer. We are positioned on the Isle of Oxney between Rye and Tenterden, just a few miles from the coast.

Heading

We are proud to be a beloved pub and one of the best places to eat in the area. We serve delicious, seasonal, fresh food with local ales and a fantastic wine list featuring English favourites from nearby vineyards. Our recently renovated dining room celebrates our garden and the superb surrounding views.

The Ferry Inn was built in 1690 to refresh and accommodate the travellers who would then cross over the outlet of the River Rother to the mainland. The existing narrow watercourse is called the Reading Street Sewer and is the Southern edge of the Old Rother. The pub was a Smuggler’s haunt and in the corner of the main bar by the Inglenook, you can still find an Owler’s (smuggler’s) window, where people inside could signal to the smugglers’ boats to let them know whether it was safe to land their contraband.
